Madonna Defends Tidal and Hints Upcoming Changes In New Interview

Jay-Z’s music streaming service Tidal launched with a ton of A-list co-signs from Kanye West, Daft Punk and Rihanna. Despite the star-studded launch in March, the company has faced a slew of public relation and technological problems since its inception. While Jay took to Twitter in April declaring that the service is doing “just fine,” the service has gone cold on the Apple App store and has been virtually lost in the music streaming conversation as Spotify and the recently launched Apple Music service continue to dominate.

However, the company’s very famous co-owner Madonna brought up the subject in a new interview. Speaking on the service, the singer defended Tidal, talking about the company’s core mission and hinting at upcoming changes. “It’s just the beginning, so we’re working out a lot of kinks and hopefully we’re going to build something unique and amazing that’s going to attract a lot of people,” Madonna told the Associated Press. It’s important that people understand we didn’t create Tidal, we didn’t put this together, we didn’t all join forces because we’re broke and we want more money. The idea is we want to support other artists and we want people to understand this is our heart, this is our work, and we want people to recognize that and we want other artists to have a chance… We live in a society now where everybody just expects everything to be for free, but you don’t get a house for free; you have to pay somebody to build it.”

With it’s third CEO in three months arriving in June, friend and supporter Kanye West deleting his tweets about the company and the sky-rocketing status of Apple Music and Spotify, only time will tell what the future holds for the streaming service.
