ScHoolboy Q should be celebrating right now: His fourth album, Blank Face LP, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and is receiving some of the strongest reviews of his career. Instead, sitting in Complex’s midtown Manhattan offices in a navy blue hoodie and matching sweatpants, he sounds tired and dejected, and doesn’t shy away from explaining why. On the day of the project’s release, a childhood friend was sentenced to 100 years in prison; shortly after the 29-year-old rapper’s daughter broke her arm. The day before, there was the killing of five police officers in Dallas at a Black Lives Matter protest. “All this stuff that’s going on in the world right now,” Q says, “a lot of people can’t even listen to my music at this moment.”

It’s no secret there’s been a lot of drama surrounding Drake and French Montana’s new track “No Shopping.” Even before it was released, rumors began circulating that the song was intended to take shots at Joe Budden, as many believed Drake was referencing Budden’s “Pump It Up” track in a preview posted by French.

After “No Shopping” officially dropped last week, there was a general consensus that Drizzy was, in fact, going in on Budden, as he rapped, “I’m not a one-hit wonder, they know all my stuff/You let me turn into the nigga you almost was.” The verse had to be about Budden, right? Well, not according to French. During an interview with MTV News, the 31-year-old rapper claimed “No Shopping” had nothing to do with the reported Drake-Budden beef. And he’s apparently sticking to that story.

Lil Yachty and Ebro Darden’s feud bubbled over Wednesday morning during Ebro in the Morning. The pair butted heads a bit during Yachty’s appearance on the program back in June, after Ebro expressed some thinly veiled skepticism of his rap skills. Yachty’s mixtape Summer Songs 2, which he released on Tuesday, contains a track called “For Hot 97.” According to Yachty, the song was an attempt to show Ebro and the crew that he really could rap, but Ebro seemed to take it as a personal diss against him. “Another high school ass rapper is offended,” he began, and proceeded to lay into Yachty for the track. “Get your bars up. I ain’t here to be your friend,” he said.

The issue soon popped up on Twitter, with Ebro and Yachty exchanging words about the intent of the song.

A$AP Rocky took a lot of heat on Twitter last Friday after fans unearthed a Time Out New York interview from September 2015 that appeared to show the rapper being dismissive of racial issues in America. Rocky clapped back on his critics with a series of tweets shortly after people started responding to what he said in the interview, and on Wednesday, he stopped by The Breakfast Club to clear the air further and to reveal what he really thinks about the matter. He started off the interview apologetic for how people had perceived his views after reading his Time Out New York quotes. “I feel terrible as a black man and as an American,” he said.

Bow Wow spoke exclusively to VladTV about the drama he went through with the mother of his child, but he admits to being part of the problem with the games that he’s played. He added that while they’ve had their ups and downs in the past, Bow Wow says that things are great right now because they don’t have a lot of interaction with one another.

During the conversation, Bow Wow also opened up about contemplating suicide around the time his third album was coming out. When asked about why he was feeling that way, the “Lottery Ticket” actor said that he didn’t feel like life was worth living because he’d already done everything three times over.

Travis Scott called into DJ Whoo Kid’s “The Whoolywood Shuffle on Shade 45, when during the interview he was watching CNN and reacted live to the tragedy that unfolded in Nice, France. Our prayers get sent out to the victims and their families of this senseless act of violence!

Vince Staples sat down with Tim Westwood for an interview at Wireless Festival in London this weekend, and Big Sean decided to crash it. Just a few minutes into the interview, Sean shows up out of nowhere to wrap Vince in a friendly headlock. It seems like Vince is clearly relieved that the pressure is off him, and even starts interviewing Sean alongside Tim. “You’re making this easier for me, so keep on going,” laughs Vince.

Eventually, they get to talking about linking up in the studio, loving the turn-up spirit of Mike WiLL Made-It, and making it as a black man in America. “We’re young black men from America. Do you know what that means?” asks Sean. “That means none of this shit is promised to us man. These watches, these whatever the fuck we like, taking care of our families, this shit ain’t promised out here. We gotta work, and I work like a fucking slave.” Although it’s a serious moment, they all remain lighthearted, with Sean even threatening to steal Tim’s microphone.
